"After 41 years of bringing his art to the jewelry industry, Brian is following his passion of painting. He always had an appreciation for cultivated things. The encouragement from his parents to draw came from his mother enjoying sketching and his father designing and building homes. He spent his childhood on his dad’s job sites, savoring the smell of freshly sawn wood.

When he turned 13, Brian began working as a delivery boy in his grandfather’s jewelry shop in downtown Seattle. He was immediately immersed in the world of jewelry manufacturing. He drew jewelry designs during lunch and in the evenings. He realized that making things filled a place in his heart like nothing else. After college he decided to use his professional jewelry skills to be a jewelry designer. He won several AGTA Spectrum awards and a Debeers Diamonds Today award. He eventually took over ownership of Sholdt Design. However, in the back of his mind, he still wanted to do 2-D art. Brian realized that jewelry was a technical trade/craft and art is more expressive activity that requires using ones depth of character to enter the stage.

Sholdt Design is now owned by Brian’s daughter Kalee, a 4th generation fine jewelry design firm and manufacturer that sells to boutiques nation wide. The showroom is located in the Old Rainier Brewery in SODO Seattle. His long engagement in the jewelry field was the experience  he needed to prepare for being a full time artist. Life experience is a gift that vastly expands an artist’s depth. In his mind, having an end game and creating a new road map to artistic success recharged his drive."

"Mexican photographer, social activist, installation artist and event producer has lived in Ajijic 39 years. Her consciousness and perspective of art has evolved as much from her experience in the communities of Mexico as from her roots north of the border. Her unique perspective and creativity has flourished with exhibitions and collections in major galleries and museums in Mexico City, Guadalajara, San Miguel, Tepic, Oaxaca, Michoacan and Colima. She also has exhibited in San Francisco, New Mexico, Colorado, and Massachusetts.  Her connection to the local community and the contemporary ecological crisis has emphatically influenced her artistic career towards the integration of art forms that propel a shifting consciousness towards a peaceful, inclusive world of peoples, cultures and nature."

I create every painting with loving intention knowing that some day, someone will feel an inexplicable connection to that work and claim it - and in time it will become a treasured heirloom that carries with it the story of its journey as it passes into the hands of the..."

Abstract acrylic artist and Reiki healer .

"Learn How Stevieji, an Artist, Reinvented Himself Creatively and Spiritually

Stevieji grew up in a modest home in Toronto. He graduated from Dentistry in his early 20’s, married and had two daughters. He lived a normal suburban life with all the trimmings. However, he always felt there was something missing. He was searching for something more meaningful.

With encouragement from his family, he sought to discover a more spiritual way of life. He became self-empowered with the study of Reiki. Stevieji traveled the world finding likeminded individuals and spent time in spiritual retreats where he found a more fulfilling way of life. At one of the retreats his senses were awakened with a form of art that he never thought he could create.

This form of art, sculpting, became a means to self-healing and personal introspection. With the use of meditation and yoga he was able to relax his mind, reflect and visualize turning a piece of stone into a work of love and beauty."

While attending art studios in Canada, United States and Mexico he discovered yet another form of self-examination through abstract art. Stevieji fell in love with the creative energy that was produced while experimenting with colour, shapes and various unusual tools. His early abstracts were dark and foreboding. However, as the years progressed his paintings took on a new life of lightness, serenity, and pleasure."

"It is quite an amazing journey going from a fresh piece of pastel paper to a finished painting. It can be challenging, uncomfortable and very stressful until it becomes gratifying, joyous and astonishing.

I became a pastelist in my late 50’s as my 46 year career as a ceramic artist was coming to a close. In Nov 2017 I made a permanent move to Ajijic where I am continually inspired by the ever changing landscape and the the colorful people, fiestas and parades. It is exciting for me to be awed by a moment and then explore how to express it as a pastel painting.

I feel very privileged to have had such a long and gratifying career as an artist and know that it has taken an enormous amount of perseverance and dedication to get to this place. The overwhelming response I have received for both my ceramic work and my pastel paintings has been so meaningful to me. To know that my vision has opened other people’s eyes to see anew, is what is ultimately rewarding."

"I have been an artist for decades in various media forms, so when we moved to Mexico almost 5 years ago I saw an opportunity to turn a portion of my house into my studio. Painting is not simply an outlet for creativity, but an extension of who I am and a expression of healing for the many experiences in my life. As a result, my paintings most often reflect love, joy, and peace in the hope that they become transcendent as they bring healing to others."

"After retiring here in Ajijic in 2019, I began taking oil painting lessons from local artist Javier Zaragoza. Our wonderful sessions in his studio taught me the basics of value, color and composition. Unfortunately, our lessons were cut short when Covid arrived.

During isolation I took the opportunity to practice what I had been taught by putting paint to canvas almost every day. I found, and continue to find, inspiration in the beauty of our village and the passion of the Mexican culture.

I am drawn to saturated colors and a somewhat impressionistic style of painting.I try to emulate the techniques of Monet and Renoir and enjoy expressing myself through color."

I don't call myself an artist, but rather a painter who accidentally discovers art in his paintings."

"I am 34 years old and my story as an artist began from a very young age.

When I was approximately 7 years old I really liked to see the drawings that my older brother's best friend made, so with the little I could save I bought pencils and notebooks to draw, and that's how I started my artistic career.

Since then I haven't separated a day from arts and crafts!

I was never the smartest child in school, but I always excelled in my art subjects, all my notebooks were full of drawings that I made to be able to pay attention in class, something that none of my teachers could understand.

My attention deficit was controlled and I could focus whether my hands were working or drawing.

I never wanted to study in my art course, I always learned self-taught, going from acrylics to watercolors, then colors, pastels, charcoal, Indian ink, oil, etc.

It was all so new and disturbing to me!

At the age of 19 I entered the Franciscan order and stayed there until I was 25 years old!

There I made what for me has been my masterpiece, a painting in the choir of the Zapopan basilica that measures more than 24 squared meters.

Leaving the seminary, I began my artistic study and my formal teaching as a teacher of plastic arts.

To date I have opened 5 cultural centers, of which Mazamitla, Ajijic and Manzanilla de la Paz are still open.

I consider myself a son of the Sierra del Tigre and I feel a strong commitment to sharing my knowledge with all the people who need it.

I have discovered that service in arts teaching is my true vocation."

Since graduating in 1978, I have exhibited my photographs around the world. These include places, like Canada, Europe, Australia, Peru and here in Mexico.

Over the years I have I have concentrated my efforts and passion in doing landscapes, documentary like El Camino Frances in Spain, abstract art and World Heritage Sites.

 FREQUENT ANSWER QUESTIONS (FAQ)

WHAT IS AN ART WALK?

It is a personal visit to the studios and galleries of local and foreign artists.

WHAT IS AN ART WALKER?

An art walker is a person interested in the artistic experience of the town of Ajijic who will find new opportunities to learn about diverse topics and especially those that nourish an intercultural experience.

IS THE ART WALK AN ASSOCIATION OF ARTISTS?

We are not an artists' association, although most artists belong to one or more associations, so it is not necessary to establish a new group of artists.

WHY IS THIS ART WALK ONLY FOR ARTISTS WITH THEIR OWN GALLERY OR STUDIO AND NOT FOR ARTISTS WHO EXHIBIT THEIR WORKS TOGETHER?

The main reason is that they meet the artists in their personal spaces of creation and exhibition; We want the experience of visiting an artist to be so interesting and unique that it generates emotions and sensations in those attending the event, and so art walkers can interact with the artists to have a pleasant experience.

WHAT IS THE PAYMENT OF THE 50 MEXICAN PESOS FOR AND WHO IS THAT MONEY FOR?

To continue supporting artists in immediate or future artistic projects.
